Couldn't they find a Canadian????

Sad mom in Conservatives’ victims rights video is in… Oregon?!

The Conservative government today rolled out out dramatic video spot to promote its new Victims Bill of Rights.

Like all this government’s propaganda, the clip is comprised mostly of shots of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. We see him working late one night in his office on, one presumes, a way to save victims of crime from further suffering. Then we see him walking down a hallway with his wife, Laureen (who you’ll be seeing lots more of in future, if a leaked Conservative media strategy was right).

But the tone of the piece, enhanced by the ominous music and narration, is set in the opening image of a distraught young mother, clasping her head in hands, as the focus racks to show her children looking with horror from the staircase behind her.

The police are not visible in the image, but the grim diorama suggests they have just left moments early after delivering extremely bad news.

What tragedy has befallen this family, we wonder?

Has dad been horribly injured at the hands of street punks?

Was grandpa run down by a drunk driver?
