Re: Stephen Harper has shifted the bedrock of Canada, Opinion June 29

...
Does it come as a surprise that the “bedrock of Canada” has been shifted to the right under Stephen Harper? It shouldn’t. While head of the Reform Party and its various incarnations, and while in Opposition, Harper vowed to erase liberalism from the Canadian political landscape. This was not Liberalism as in the Liberal Party of Canada, but liberalism with a small “l.” Not a political party, but a way of thinking, a way of being.

Small “l” Liberalism is a political and social philosophy advocating freedom of the individual. It values “social and political change in order to achieve progress.” It values above all justice for all.
This was the Canada I knew growing up in the 1950s and ’60s. Harper has done his best to change all that. He has done his best to destroy the basic values of traditional Canada. We need to stop him before it is too late.
