Indeed, no Canadian prime minister has been as singled-minded in his efforts to undermine democratic principles, institutions and the rights and freedoms of Canadian
Much has already been documented about his preoccupation with undermining democracy — all in an effort to remake Canada and maintain power.
Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians has compiled a very long list of such acts, and many experts and scholars have criticized this prime minister’s assault on democracy.
A recent two-part series by award-winning journalist Bruce Livesey in the National Observer had a “laundry list” of acts that have distorted democracy during Stephen Harper’s time in office. And then are the well-researched books (like “Party of One,” by Michael Harris), scathing in their analysis of Harper’s decade in power.
The proof is substantial and significant and will provide more than a footnote in a historian’s account of Harper’s reign.
